“The Mysterious Parallels of Harry Potter” is a master’s thesis I wrote in 2017-2018 that explores the entanglement of ring composition and mystery within the Harry Potter series. I build on the groundwork laid out by John Granger in “Harry Potter as Ring Composition and Ring Cycle” by charting all seven books with the mysteries as my main focus. The result is what I’ve labeled ‘The Detective Ring’. I believe this particular marriage of two rigid compositions (ring composition & detective fiction) can be dated back to The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins– which I’m currently working on.

Yes! It sufficed that I in life could find
Some kind of link-and-bobolink, some kind
Of correlated pattern in the game,
Plexed artistry, and something of the same
Pleasure in it as they who played it found
